PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
PROGRAMME AIM
The aim of the Master of Science in Intelligent System [MSc. (Intel. System)] programme is to produce graduates who are knowledgeable, competitive, principled and skilled in theory and practice of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to deal with an organization’s computing needs.
PROGRAMME OBJECTIVE
The objectives of the MSc. (Intel. System) programme are as follows:
- To provide graduates with advanced AI computing knowledge and skills
- To train graduates to work on a project in which they propose, design, build, test, analyze and deliver an AI computing solution to meet the organization’s needs
- To equip graduates with the ability to carry out AI computing research under the supervision
- To develop graduates’ effective communication skills and ethical responsibilities
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
Students for Master of Science (Intelligent System) by Coursework and Dissertation must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree with Honours related to Computing or Science and Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 2.75; or
- A bachelor’s degree with Honours related to Computing or Science and Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 2.00 – 2.74 and relevant work experience; and
- Fulfil the English language requirements as set by the University Senate.
Students for Master of Science (Intelligent System) by Research must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree with Honours related to Computing or Science and Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of at least 3.00; or
- A bachelor’s degree with Honours related to Computing or Science and Technology from Universiti Utara Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the University Senate with a CGPA of 2.00 – 2.99 and relevant work experience; and
- Fulfil the English language requirements as set by the University Senate.

Dissertation |
Students are required to:
- Present and defend proposed research to a committee;
- Present progress report of research work at colloquiums arranged by the Graduate School;
- Attend a viva voce session to defend the thesis; and
- Submit a written thesis.
Students without sufficient research skills and knowledge are required to attend and pass the following courses with at least a B grade before being allowed to defend their proposal (i.e. within the first two semesters of their enrolment):
- STIQ6014 Research Methodology in Computing;
- SCLE6014 Academic Writing; and/or
- Any other courses as determined by the supervisor or Academic Committee.
