CYBERJAYA, 23 MAY 2024 – Universal Acceptance (UA) Day 2024 is a significant initiative aimed at promoting digital diversity and inclusivity in technology usage. Universal Acceptance refers to the principle that all domain names and email addresses, regardless of script, length, or format, should be correctly accepted and processed by all Internet applications. UA Day is a day to raise awareness and promote UA adoption, a technical requirement that ensures all valid domain names and email addresses, regardless of script, language, or character length, can be equally used by all Internet-enabled applications, devices, and systems. This event is coordinated and organized by the Institute for Advanced and Smart Digital Opportunities (IASDO) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), funded by ICANN and supported by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The program took place at UNITEN and was attended by several representatives from IASDO UUM, UNITEN and MCMC, including Dr. Hapini Awang (Director of IASDO), Dr. Suhaili (Deputy Director of IASDO), and Prof. Dr. Osman Ghazali (Dean of SOC). Additionally, the main event featured a talk by Prof. Ts. Dr. Suhaidi Hassan (IASDO) and Melissa Kamaruzaman (MCMC). The program concluded with a Q&A session, where participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and gain further clarification on the technical issues and strategies discussed throughout the program. This session helped ensure a clear and practical understanding for all participants. This program not only provided exposure to the concept of Universal Acceptance but also offered a platform for knowledge sharing and skill enhancement among the participants. With active participation from academia and industry, this program is expected to drive more sustainable and inclusive technological developments in Malaysia and internationally.
