School of Computing, UUM joined Strateq’s Technology Talent Development (T2Dev) Programme to Address IT Expert Shortage in Malaysia

17 March 2023 – Strateq Group, a leading integrated solutions and services provider, has announced the inclusion of Universiti Utara Malaysia’s (UUM) School of Computing in its Technology Talent Development (T2Dev) programme. Launched by Datuk Tan Seng Kit, Strateq’s Group Managing Director, the T2Dev programme aims to address the IT expert shortage in Malaysia by fostering collaboration between universities and industries to develop local IT talent with relevant knowledge and skills.

The launch event occurred at One World Hotel Petaling Jaya, and approximately 70 participants from Strateq’s partner universities and industries attended it. Strateq Group, established in 1983, operates in various sectors, including healthcare, oil & gas, banking, financial services, telecommunications, energy, utilities, education, consumer goods, manufacturing, and the public sector.

The Strateq Talent Development program offers undergraduates, and new graduates access to highly technical work scopes, helping young STEM professionals gain practical industry experience, refine their skills, and increase employability. UUM’s participation in T2Dev is expected to benefit students in terms of career development. Currently, Nur Maslinda Binti Mamat, a final-year Bachelor of Science with Honours (Information Technology) student at UUM, is having her internship at Strateq under the guidance of Talent Development Manager Mr Aiman Farris Abu Daud.

During the event, SOC’s Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation, Associate Professor Ts. Dr Norliza Katuk, delivered a presentation on preparing computing graduates for the industry of tomorrow. The presentation addressed graduates’ challenges and the importance of fostering collaboration between universities and the industry. Dr Khuzairi Mohd Zaini (Program Chair for MSc. Cybersecurity), Dr Azizi Abas (Program Chair for Bachelor of Computer Science) and Dr Baharudin Osman (Director for Computing Professional Enrichment & Development Division) also attended the event.
