The School of Computing (SOC) received a visit from the Dean and staff of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Islam Sumatera Utara (UISU), on 19 December 2022. The Dean, Associate Professor Dr Ir. Abdul Haris Nasution was accompanied by the Computer Science Program Chair, Mr Mhd. Zulfansyuri, during the visit. In addition, they visited UUM with delegates from other schools to discuss potential collaborations between both institutions. Meanwhile, SOC was represented by Associate Professor Ts. Dr Norliza Katuk, the Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation, Associate Professor Dr Husniza Husni, the Doctoral Programme Chair and Dr Noradila Nordin, the research member of the proposed joint research.

UISU is interested in having a joint research project related to the digitalization and preservation of historical places in Medan and Kedah. The main idea of the research is to cultivate the young generation's interest in exploring and appreciating local history. Digital technology will be able to provide an engaging experience of understanding our history and learning from past events that shaped our current community. Further, the joint would allow the co-authorship of papers between both institutions and allows the mobility of staff and students between the two institutions. Both parties also planned on co-organizing conferences and public lectures. The visit led to a fruitful discussion on the activities that will be carried out for the collaborations.

Before the meeting, the delegates visited the UUM Welcome Centre and Centre of International Affairs and Cooperation (CIAC) earlier. At CIAC, the delegates met the Director, Associate Professor Dr Arpah Abu Bakar, and the respective schools' representatives for a short briefing on the collaborations and the activities during the visit.
