SOC ONLINE: The Research, Publication and Seminar Committees, School of Computing (SOC) has organized a knowledge sharing session entitled “A Journey Towards Q1 Publication”, by Prof. Dr. Ku Ruhana Ku Mahamud on 17th April 2018. 80 participants attended this session including the SOC staff and postgraduate students. In this session, Prof. Dr. Ku Ruhana shared a lot of valuable knowledge on how to successfully publish in the Q1 journal based on her expertise and experience as the chief editor for Journal of ICT, reviewer and a research writer. According to her, “a quality article is more important than the quantity of articles in the publication”. Through her experience, there are many challenges and issues to publish in the Q1 journal. One important factor that needs to be considered is to identify the right journal. This can improve the chance of acceptance. She also highlighted the requirements that must be followed to ensure that an article will be accepted and published in a journal. Meanwhile, skills in writing journal article need to be developed by time to become more successful in publication. Finally, she concluded that publication is a long process that needs patience along the way to successfully publish the journal article. It is hoped that more Q1 journals can be published by SOC academicians and students in the near future.
