With the aim of providing exposure to students, the School of Computing (SOC) and Student Development and Alumni UUM, College of Arts and Sciences (PPA CAS) sent a total of six students to participate in the Aturkreatif Open Programing competition organized by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan. They were accompanied by two lecturers, Dr. Shafinah Farvin Packeer Mohamed and Dr. Noradila Nordin. The competition which tested the programming capabilities amongst the students was held on April 15, 2018 at USIM. The participants include students from 9 universities and colleges, namely University of Malaya, International Islamic University, Universiti Teknologi Mara Shah Alam, Universiti Teknologi Mara Jasin, Technical University, Inti College, Taylor's College, USIM and UUM. From SOC, the participants are among semester six and three students. They were selected according to the level and ability in programming and divided into two groups named as A (VOID) and No name. In this competition, each group was given ten programming questions and allocated three hours to complete them. The group which solves the most programming problems correctly becomes the winner. Group A (VOID) won the 6th place while the No Name group was ranked 15th out of 26 teams competing. Many benefits were gained from this competition, not only gives students exposure on the competition, but also they were able to assess their own potential and strive towards improving their programming skills. In addition, students and lecturers are also able to get acquainted with each other and establish good relationship between universities. Furthermore, the lecturers also learned about the implementation of the competition. It is hoped that in the future SOC students will be able to participate in similar competition and have the opportunity to bring victory for SOC.
