UUM Sintok, 12 December: Asi@Connect Roadshow 2017 has been held at the UUM CAS Seminar Hall at School of Computing, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). The roadshow begins with a speech by Dr. Mohd. Faizal Omar, Deputy Director (Special Task) of Research and Innovation Management Centre (RIMC), UUM. In his speech, Dr. Faizal welcomes and thanks Malaysia Research & Education Network (MYREN) to be here and give UUM staff and others a great opportunity to grab up to €20 million of grant.

This is followed by a talk by Mr. Sharizan Samuii, Network Manager at MYREN. His talk begins with a video presentation on the introduction to MYREN. MYREN is an organization under current governance of the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and management of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). MYREN enables high speed dedicated connectivity to the education sector while expanding research capability in Malaysia.

The Session continued with the recorded session by Dr. Byung-Kyu, Executive Officer, TEIN*Cooperation Center (TEIN*CC), Seoul, Korea. TEIN*CC is responsible to manage Asia@Connect that is jointly funded by the European Commission and Asia partners. In his speech, Dr. Byung-Kyu explained about international collaboration that begins with TEIN 2 in 2004, TEIN 3 in 2008, TEIN 4 in 2012 and now, Asia@Connect in 2016.

Many opportunities can be grabbed through the different work packages (WP). WP2 for Capacity Development of Developing Country NRENs, WP3 for Network Design & Operations and Associated Capacity Development, WP4 for Deployment of Specialized Network Products, Services and Applications and Associated Capacity Development, WP5 for Promoting Asi@Connect-enable Research and Education Collaboration for social benefit and WP6 for helping to bridge the digital divide in developing countries.

All of these opportunities are possible when the applicant follows these steps: wait for call for proposal, obtain the template, complete the template, submit application, and wait for the application status. Get ready for the call for proposal latest by March 2018. The roadshow ended by the presentation of token of appreciation from SOC to MYREN followed by MYREN to SOC.
